Opinion: Who watches the Watchmen?

Well, if you didn't get the movie pun, that's because you haven't watched anything related to the film "Watchmen," the 2009 superhero film based off the the 1986 graphic novel of the same name. Written by Alan Moore and David Gibbons, and set in an alternate-history 1985, Watchmen follows a group of former vigilantes as tensions rise between the United States and the Soviet Union while an investigation of an apparent conspiracy against them uncovers something even more grandiose and sinister (thank you Wikipedia for that, cause i got lazy with the movie description).

The film was very highly anticipated, and opening weekend sales were spectacular (despite the film being roughly three hours long). I personally liked the film, as it told a very good story and the action didn't seem like it was a sore thumb, popping up god knows where. Great movie in my book.

It has come to my attention, however, that many people who saw the film didn't like it. I don't know if it's because they read the novel first , or they really thought the film was bad. Seems like a bunch of mixed opinions

And while I do like "Watchmen," this is, however, an Opinion post. The "O's" have it is something I'm trying up here, and I like the idea, so there....you don't like it, POST SOMETHIN!!!

Liking the new Mac "Tri-Book"

What up peeps? Well, this is not a joke homies...cause dammit, it just isn't. This is the new Mac Tri-Book; and yep, you guessed it....it has three screens. That's a total of 21 inches from corner to corner when open. With this, you can adequately do all the little things we all love to do...like make beats while actively engineering a recording session with your crew (you know, that kinda stuff).

Now, I know what you're thinkin'....how much does this wonderful contraption cost...well, I don't know exactly (that's because it's a concept at this time). And don't get this "tri-book" confused with just another Apple gimmick toy like the MacBook Air....this product, recently picked up by Mac Life, packs enough power to handle all of your recording/producing session needs. Inside the 6.75 x 10 inch frame (about one inch tall), this three headed wonder sports an 8x Superdrive along with lots of hard drive space. The Tri Book also flaunts numerous I/O connectors and the MacBook Pro CPU...I mean, ladies and gentlemen, this thing can go!!!

The Mac "Tri-Book" is definitely on the Beatbox' 'to get' list. I mean, where else can you get a computer/portable studio that folds two additional screens comfortably in between the regular screen and the keyboard??? Can your HP do that? Huh PC...nah, i'm playin'.

But still, fuck wit it...

What up everybody!!

You know, a couple of weeks ago, I dropped a post entitled "Where have all the Emcees gone." Well, I know were two of them were...on the f'n grind.

TheSpitzwell Brotherz bring to us the Premium Blend Mixtape. Now I'm not one to judge a book by it's cover, but just by looking at the cover art, it's easy to see that Frank and EP are not dropping a run of the mill, McDonald's coffee operation with this music.

The track listing is ridiculously insane; a grand total of 26 (24 with intro/outro). This is more than enough to make Juan Valdez take a closer look at what's in their cup. All coffee puns aside, this is the type of mix a lot of dedicated hiphop heads have been waiting for. Spitzwell tend to keep it on the path they like, and that's the key that makes this mix the premium blend they intended it to be.

Every song, from the pseudo single sounding "Everybody Else," blending their lyrics with the likes of T-Pain, to bangers like "Give me your love" show the complete confidence Frank and EP have in each other to destroy the other's verse. That's a technique that you "(insert ridiculous name here) Man" rap groups need to learn. A track like "Keep the Change" is refreshing to hear. Spitzwell give a very insightful, dope perspective on that fine specimen at the bar....yea, the one you were just about to buy a drink nigga. Take heed to the Franky tirade at the end negros and niggas alike: you could learn somethin'. I'm just sayin'...

The Spitzwell Brotherz Present...The Premium Blend mixtape is very fun to listen to, and you really won't find yourself board to tears, like you might find on other mixtapes. If you're reading about it on this blog, understand that it's up here for a reason. The Premium Blend is a free download, so I have no idea why anyone wouldn't pick this gem up and replace a couple of those dusty ass CDs you got in your car.

Friday the 13th (2009)

This movie is a reboot (not a remake) of the original. There are elements from the first four films, and shells out a lot of good ol' Jason fun. Jason is back to his Part 3 glory in this picture, with a rambo-esc edge, making him a movie maniac to honestly be feared.

Push (2009)

This movie is a good one if you have nothing else to do. The special effects are pretty good, but I have to be honest....if you watch Heroes on NBC, you've seen all this before. Dakota Fanning is in this one, and yep, she's a little older now (drinkin' liquor and everything). Anyway, check it out.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

This sequel/prequel is the next instalment in the X-Men movie franchise. Taking us back to the real early days, movie we'll learn more about the franchise player, Wolverine, as well as some other X-Favorites we haven't seen on screen yet. I personally am looking forward to it, as i'm a fan.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li (2009)

This new film based on the acclaimed CAPCOM classic, puts us right in the middle of Chun Li's story. The movie chronicles the rise of Li, and her history with M. Bison and Shadaloo. Honestly, this movie looks like another missed opportunity at making a great movie. Not really expecting much, but I hope i'm wrong.

Ok, so I stated in my last post that i was going to do this one. I also stated that singer John Legend's letter to that Washington Post was going to be up here too...well, here it is:

Open Letter to the New York Post

Dear Editor:

I'm trying to understand what possible motivation you may have had for publishing that vile cartoon depicting the shooting of the chimpanzee that went crazy. I guess you thought it would be funny to suggest that whomever was responsible for writing the Economic Recovery legislation must have the intelligence and judgment of a deranged, violent chimpanzee, and should be shot to protect the larger community. Really? Did it occur to you that this suggestion would imply a connection between President Barack Obama and the deranged chimpanzee? Did it occur to you that our President has been receiving death threats since early in his candidacy? Did it occur to you that blacks have historically been compared to various apes as a way of racist insult and mockery? Did you intend to invoke these painful themes when you printed the cartoon?

If that's not what you intended, then it was stupid and willfully ignorant of you not to connect these easily connectible dots. If it is what you intended, then you obviously wanted to be grossly provocative, racist and offensive to the sensibilities of most reasonable Americans. Either way, you should not have printed this cartoon, and the fact that you did is truly reprehensible. I can't imagine what possible justification you have for this. I've read your lame statement in response to the outrage you provoked. Shame on you for dodging the real issue and then using the letter as an opportunity to attack Rev. Sharpton. This is not about Rev. Sharpton. It's about the cartoon being blatantly racist and offensive.

I believe in freedom of speech, and you have every right to print what you want. But freedom of speech still comes with responsibilities and consequences. You are responsible for printing this cartoon, and I hope you experience some real consequences for it. I'm personally boycotting your paper and won't do any interviews with any of your reporters, and I encourage all of my colleagues in the entertainment business to do so as well. I implore your advertisers to seriously reconsider their business relationships with you as well.

You should print an apology in your paper acknowledging that this cartoon was ignorant, offensive and racist and should not have been printed.

I'm well aware of our country's history of racism and violence, but I truly believe we are better than this filth. As we attempt to rise above our difficult past and look toward a better future, we don't need the New York Post to resurrect the images of Jim Crow to deride the new administration and put black folks in our place. Please feel free to criticize and honestly evaluate our new President, but do so without the incendiary images and rhetoric.

Speaking of saying something, where have all the emcees gone? Isn't it funny how all the established rappers can make diss records in a matter of minutes, over something stupid...but when it comes to this blatent act of irresponsible racism, there are no rappers to be found....NONE. No comments by Jay Z, no videos on 50 Cent's website, no records or cartoons by Rick Ross, nothing. Where you at?

I'm not trying to downplay the severity of the Rihanna/Smackdown Brown incident, and i'm definately not trying to pay any attention to the 50/Rick Ross circus (cause nobody besides the two of them actually care), but this is a serious issue that affects all of America, not just Blacks. If we can waste f'n time making stupid animations, talking bout how hard we are, taking trips to see peoples parents (50), and all this nonsense, shouldn't we be able to speak out against something like this?

What up? It's tha beatbox bitch. Yea, i took a brief hibernation to get the batteries charged fully, but it's all good. I've actually been working on a super ill mix called "The Endless Summer," scheduled to drop in April. I will definately let you all know what's going down with that.

I read alot nowadays. And as i'm sure many of you know, the Washington Post published a rather racist cartoon depicting two white police officers shooting and killing a chimp; the speech bubble reads "They'll have to find somebody else to sign the next stimulus bill." C'mon....do i even have to point out the obvious racial overtones in this one.

Anyway, so recently singer (and potential colab) John Legend issued a letter to the Post about the cartoon. I will post the letter in my next post, as well as the title "where have all the emcees gone?"

so im in georgia bored out of my fucking mind and decided to reminisce over my week a little bit. well just a day or 2, gabe wednesday was dope as fuck...gabe dj a party for payperoute (sorry if misspelled) what up short and dwayne....the party was in this random building at an industrial park which i thought of doing prior to going.... these niggas beat me to the punch good shit fellas... the party got pretty live until some niggas went electric boogaloo and knocked a speaker down...dagger. after that event they shut the party down and niggas started shoot, shit was cooley though it was just for shits and giggles ya no battle axe or innocent bistanders got hurt. next up we rallyed the troops up and went to ihop like 12 deep for water and bounced... our waitress was so pissed sorry! so we decided to go back to the building and chop it up ad we were rolling up (brace yourself) venusuar comes running to the door and razor leafs me so i had to start throwing daggers and but her bag in the pokeball. i shouldve been in smash brothers the way i slayed that venusaur lol........ so on and on like erykah we go gin, blunts and conversation (no robbie if you see this i didnt smoke) was dope. gabe put me on the spot like he always does for some freestyling so i skated to te whip for the pc and proceed to rhyme and rip i suppose. ok im fucking up we met some of the coolest kids in bad newz as well pk, maada, mh and jenn i felt like there was an underground cool kids scene out there good meeting you guys. we wrapped the night up with some t's and dap the night turned out nicely laughs and hiphop the best ingredients for a good night. that brings me to now 3am in georgia bored as fuck writing to this pete rock track i forgot about check it .

I just got word of the new colorway for the Air Yeezy, Kanye's new shoe by Nike, that was previously posted by yours truly...

These black/black/white Yeezy's were spotted at the Grammy's during his performance. I didn't know what they were at the time, and these West x Nike colabo isn't available to the public yet, but take a look....

These white/granite/pastel blue versions are apparently in the same status as the original ones I just posted.....NOT AVAILABLE!!!! Big props to 'Ye and Nike though for coming up with some dopeness.

However, it would be nice to get a price quote, release date, or something. Summer's almost in full swing, and if you're like me, it's just about time to get your sneaker game up. Hopefully I'll have some in hand (or on feet) soon, so I can give you the complete breakdown of the Air Yeezy.

So This weekend we took a trip to Richmond and Ronoake Va to open for girltalk...With That said Richmond was REDIC..The venue was Toadd's Place which I suppose is brand new..Girltalk sold out and Gabe, Royan and I were UBER intoxicated..ha Shouts to Smedium and Billy..Sat was the performance at Hollins after a 2hr ride and 3 mountain dew amps we arrived..Kid A AND I's performance was a lil shakey at first but once those I can't tell drums Drop it was On..The Girls Showed Alot of Love and my set went over DOPE!..Girltalk then came on and further got things right! THE AFTERPARTY...HMM..IDK I went back to the hotel but I think the other fellas had a good time...

In celebration of the Beijing 2008 Olympics Jordan Brand is releasing this special edition Jordan VI. The colorway is obviously inspired by the Olympic rings, but the shoe also features other interesting details. There is patent leather used throughout the shoe, and there is prominent design stitched onto the toebox. The MRSP of the shoe is reported to be $150, and it should be releasing on June 7th, 2008
